Installing Gentoo on Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pro v2040

[previously: Ubuntu 5.10 (preview)]

I will try to describe here my experience using this notebook, I hope it might appear helpful to some of you. Enjoy!

Intel Pentium M 740, 1.73 GHz Works, including frequency scaling No special procedure required during installation.
15" XGA TFT Display, 1024x768 Works No special procedure required during installation.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 Works No special procedure required during installation.
2x256MB DDR2 SDRAM Works No special procedure required during installation
60GB Samsung SATA Hard Drive Works The Ubuntu installer got stuck during installation at the ntfsresize attempt. ntfsresize had to be called manually in the second shell. If you want to simply delete the pre-installed Windows partition, then there is no problem at all.
Realtek RTL8110 Gigabit Ethernet card Works No special procedure required during installation
Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG lan card Works OK in Gentoo, unidentified problem in Ubuntu Works without a problem with ipw2200 driver in Gentoo
Internal 56k Modem I didn't check it In progress
LG DVD+/-RW drive Works, the recording to be checked No special procedure required during installation
11.1V 4400mAh Lithium-Ion Battery Works, including battery status checking No special procedure required during installation
Soundcard: ADI IC CODEC AD1986A Finally works okay thanks to the patch by SebastianR See below at November 17th.
ACPI Works The CPU frequency scaling, battery status work well. The hibernation still needs some work to be launched.

Please DO NOT ask me for sending you the keyboard firmware upgrade.
You can ask for it at your local Fujitsu-Siemens support. If, for some unfortunate reason, the firmware upgrade fails without the support being informed about the upgrade, you will probably render the notebook unusable and loose your guarantee.
